Honoring Freedom, Building Legacy: A Juneteenth Reflection
/At Hinton Real Estate Group, Juneteenth isn’t just a date on the calendar—it’s a powerful reflection of freedom hard-fought, progress long-delayed, and the unwavering spirit of a people determined to rise.
On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, announcing that all enslaved African Americans were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. That delay, while staggering, reminds us that liberation doesn’t always come swiftly. Justice demands persistence. Change calls for community.
For over ten years, we’ve proudly served Ypsilanti and Southeast Michigan as a Black, woman-owned real estate group rooted in purpose. To us, real estate has never just been about transactions—it’s about access, equity, and helping our people own a stake in their future.
Why Juneteenth Matters to Us
At its heart, Juneteenth is a call to remember and recommit. Here’s what it means to us:
Freedom – Our ancestors’ dreams of liberation guide the work we do. Each home we help our clients secure is more than property—it’s a step forward in that legacy of freedom.
Culture – We honor Black culture not just with words, but through action—by supporting local Black-owned businesses, celebrating our artists, and amplifying the brilliance that thrives in our community.
Legacy – Homeownership is one of the most powerful tools for building generational wealth. We’re not just helping families buy homes; we’re helping them build lasting legacies.
Community First, Always
Our work doesn’t stop at the closing table. Being a part of Ypsilanti means showing up—through financial education, neighborhood partnerships, and events that bring us together. Juneteenth is one of those moments. A time to celebrate, but also to reflect on the work still ahead.
Because freedom isn’t just about the past—it’s about what we do now to push our people forward.
Join Us in Celebration
We invite you to join us for Ypsilanti’s Annual Juneteenth Celebration, happening June 20–22, 2025, at 301 W. Michigan Ave. We’ll be there, celebrating our culture, connecting with neighbors, and honoring the spirit of Juneteenth together.
Let’s keep building—one home, one family, one future at a time.
