Michael Unsworth, a retired history librarian at Michigan State University, uses PowerPoint to share how Michigan was threatened by Japanese balloons during World War II. The Japanese army launched over 9300 balloons from the home islands; two traveled over 7500 miles to Allegan and Wayne counties. Mr. Unsworth discusses the strategy, design, and use of the balloons as well as their impact on Michigan and the American war effort.
