THORNETTA DAVIS AND DISASTER RELIEF- Record Release

  • The Blind Pig 208 South 1st Street Ann Arbor, MI, 48104 United States (map)

Local jazz-funk group, Disaster Relief, is joined by Detroit's "Queen of the Blues," Thornetta Davis, to celebrate the vinyl release of their new 7" EP "How I Feel." Nominated for two Detroit Music Awards, "How I Feel" bridges the funk-soul sounds of Disaster Relief with the distinctive blues vocals of Thornetta for songs that offer up a dose of honest social commentary for these crazy times with the swagger and soul of an American blues master.

Disaster Relief also celebrates the vinyl release of their new full length album, "Back Into It," which expands upon their recipe of old-school funk and soul influences from New Orleans to Memphis, combined with an ever growing list of global influences from Afrobeat to Balkan and Caribbean music. Driven by a powerful four-peice horn section, Disaster Relief combines tightly composed syncopated parts with open improvisation and solo jam sections, all with a grit and groove to keep the dance party going.

"Greasy..open yet poignant funk jams...the band's feel good ethos produces perfect party music." - Paul Naser, AllAboutJazz.com "Delicious soul-funk, innovative and brisk, played with fervent passion and oodles of sonic heat." -
