H.M.S. Pinafore or The Lass That Loved a Sailor

  • Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre 911 North University Avenue Ann Arbor, MI, 48109 United States (map)

The University of Michigan Gilbert and Sullivan Society presents H.M.S. Pinafore, a musical that pokes fun at British social classes. Both Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Admiralty, and Ralph Rackstraw, an ordinary sailor, want to marry Josephine, daughter of the Pinafore’s captain. Josephine loves Ralph but her father wants her to marry Sir Joseph. Surprisingly, Sir Joseph also believes in equality in British society and the Royal navy which encourages Josephine to believe she can marry Ralph. Naturally, there is a last-minute discovery that provides a surprise ending.

Artistic directed by Makoto Takata with music director Ezra Donner, the cast features Alexis Pratt as Josephine, Adam Chase as Ralph Rackstraw, and Lee Vahlsing as Sir Joseph Porter.
