Growing Hope is delighted to announce the second annual Ypsilanti Food Awards on Saturday, April 15th. This fun fundraising event will support our Ypsilanti Farmers Markets and celebrate local food achievements, including our market vendors and the great diversity of local independent food businesses. We’ll highlight the positive economic impact of food entrepreneurs during a spectacular evening of delicious food, drink, and music - culminating in an awards ceremony for success stories and local heroes in Ypsi’s food world.
Theme: BROKEN. Prepare a five minute story about a time it all fell to pieces! Promises never kept, to hearts left shattered to be swept. The time YOU dropped the glass at your great-aunt’s house, or when your best friend’s 97’ Nissan finally gave out. Saving your smartphone from catastrophe! And still, theres a scratch. From laws, to limbs, to fragile iphones tell us about the brokenness of life.

The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the longest running independent and experimental film festival in North America. Founded in 1963, the AAFF was independent before "independent film," serving as a critical forum for filmmakers to show their creative work outside of the studio film industry. Today the festival continues its strongly independent spirit as a premier showcase for bold, visionary, experimental and high-caliber films.

Our first ever maple syrup demo - this is a pop up event, weather permitting and the sap is running. No sap = no syrup - so keep an eye on this event. Our very own Kristen and mailman Kirk will be setting up camp in the food cart area for an educational and fun demo on the mysteries of maple syrup production.

Theme: MAKING PEACE. Craft a five-minute story about Making Peace: The laying down of arms, the olive branch, the surrender to the greater good or the fierce battle for an even playing ground. Stories of all manner of amity welcome: peace with a nation, a neighbor or a notion. Loving your enemies is a tall order, but how about you just make nice?
See amazing creations made out of LEGO: Trains, cities, robots, art, vehicles, construction equipment, and more. Enjoy a performance by the Skyline Drumline at 2pm (Saturday only). Everything is great fun and enjoyable for the whole family. Proceeds benefit the Skyline High School band program.

he Cabaret-style concert will include songs from Broadway and the Silver Screen, depicting all aspects of love: from love from a distance, first love, and lasting love to embitterment and betrayal. The concert will also include a tribute to Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds as well as the Buster Keaton silent short "One Week" about a pair of newlyweds literally setting up house for the first time and the problems that occur when a jealous suitor purposely mislabels the crates of parts for the house.
